Lately we’ve been getting more questions about our serological test. We would like to explain more about the test in this article. If you have any questions about this test or any of our other tests, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

What does the test do?

The serological test shows whether the body has built up antibodies, also called antibodies, against the coronavirus. The test has the highest sensitivity 3 to 4 weeks after the onset of symptoms. This means that the serological test is most reliable a few weeks after the patient has been infected with the coronavirus. It is therefore advisable to wait a few weeks after being infected with the virus before taking the serological blood test. You can order this test at home or schedule it in our clinic.

If I have antibodies, how long am I protected?

It is currently unknown how long antibodies remain in your body to protect you from a second infection. What we do know is that a second infection with the coronavirus is an exception, it does not happen often. If you have been vaccinated, you can also use our serological test to see whether the vaccination is effective for you*. Antibodies should then be visible in your blood. Also wait a few weeks before you get tested.

Why is it not certain that you are immune?

There are uncertainties about how the body reacts to the coronavirus after infection. The immune response is highly individual, which makes it difficult to determine the duration and protective effect. Contamination with the coronavirus does not guarantee complete immunity afterwards. So do you want to test whether you have antibodies in your blood after having suffered from complaints or after a vaccination*? Order our serological test for home or make an appointment at our clinic.

* It differs per type of vaccine whether the antibodies are measurable. This test is mainly intended for testing whether you have had Corona.
