The PCR test

The PCR test (polymerase chain reaction test) is a test to show whether you are currently infected with the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). A throat and nasal swab taken by a doctor forms the basis of the PCR test. The collected material is analyzed in our laboratory. This results in a negative or positive result.

This test is widely used especially for travel. Most countries currently have entry restrictions as part of the corona measures. A negative PCR test with a medical certificate is then required to enter the country and to avoid mandatory quarantine.

Test by ISO certified and RIVM validated lab for COVID-19 PCR testing.

COVID-19 PCR certificate widely accepted. Many test locations in the Netherlands!

Tested in the morning before 11:30 am? Result the same day around 10 p.m.

What is a PCR test?

The PCR test is a polymer chain reaction test. The test is used to show whether someone is carrying the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). In the test, a piece of genetic material obtained from a throat and nasal swab is strongly multiplied to show whether the virus is present.

How is the test administered?

Our doctor or nurse will take some mucus with a throat and nasal swab. Our laboratory analyzes your material. The doctor will check the results and issue a certificate confirming your COVID-19 PCR status. This certificate is sent personally via secure e-mail.

Why a PCR test?

The PCR test has a high test sensitivity. The test can pick up very small amounts of the virus. Therefore, the PCR test is still the gold standard.

What is the difference with an Antigen Rapid Test?

The PCR test is the gold standard. This is because the PCR test is very sensitive and also detects lower virus levels. However, we need our laboratory for the PCR test and the results often take a little longer.

We do not need a laboratory for a COVID-19 rapid test. We can perform this test in our clinic and the results will be available quickly.

What are the costs?

The costs of a PCR test for travelers including a certificate are € 149.95 including VAT.

The outcome

When the material has been collected, it is brought to our laboratory. Here it is analyzed. The analysis takes 4 to 8 hours. We analyze our PCR tests with priority. People who have been tested in the morning will get the results the same day around 10 p.m.

Validity

Validity is an important part of PCR tests used for travel. Most countries have a number of hours or days for a certificate to be valid. There is often still a distinction between validity until departure or validity until arrival. Pay close attention to this!

Bring or submit a statement

In most cases you will be asked to take the statement or certificate with you on a trip in order to show it. In some cases this may be digital, but usually this must be a printed version. However, some countries want the certificate to be delivered online earlier. pay attention to this!

Children

It differs per country whether children should also be tested. In many countries children have to be tested from 0 years, but there are also countries where children up to a certain age are exempt. So check this carefully before you leave.
