The serological test

The serological test is a blood test that can be used to show whether corona antibodies (IgG) are present in the blood. Antibodies are produced in response to a virus infection or vaccination. This information can provide more peace of mind and security. The test works optimally from about two to three weeks after the first day that you have been sick or vaccinated.

The serological test is a qualitative test and not a quantitative test , which means that it only tests whether there are antibodies in the blood. The amount of antibodies is not measured.

What is a serological test?

During the serological test, a small amount of blood is taken. This blood forms the basis for research into the presence of antibodies for the coronavirus. If antibodies are present, we can state that you have been infected with COVID-19, or that you have been vaccinated.

Coronalab uses the very high specificity ELISA test (> 98%). This makes the chance of false positive results very small. Our tests are analyzed in our own lab.

Disclaimer: This test remains a snapshot of your antibodies at the time of testing. The test cannot distinguish between antibodies produced by an infection or by a vaccination.

Why a corona antibody test?

The vaccination can have an impact on the level of antibodies in your body. However, in the case of some vaccines, you can be protected, but this does not have to be picked up by this antibody test.
