The serological test
The serological test is a blood test that can be used to determine whether Corona antibodies (IgG) are present in the blood. Antibodies are produced in response to a virus infection. The moment you are infected with a virus, the body will produce antibodies in response. After about two to three weeks, antibodies, for in this case SARS-CoV-2, are visible to us. Based on the serological test, we can determine whether you have had COVID-19.
Note: it is not yet certain that you are protected or ‘immune’ to COVID-19 after you have been infected.

What is a serological test?
A small amount of blood is taken during the serological test. This blood forms the basis for research into the presence of antibodies for the corona virus. If antibodies are present, we can say that contamination with COVID-19 has been experienced.
Coronalab uses the ELISA test with a very high specificity (> 98%). This makes the chance of false positive results very small. Our tests are analyzed in our own lab.
Why a corona antibody test?
A serological test is there to determine if you have had corona. This information can provide more peace and security. The test works optimally from about two weeks after the first day that you have been ill. Have you had complaints recently and do you want to know whether this was the corona virus? You can determine this with the serological test.
Is your test a self-test / home test?
No. Self-testing means that you can do the test YOURSELF at home and also get a result AT HOME (eg a pregnancy test is a self-test). In that case, no laboratory or doctor is involved. Such tests are not reliable enough. The IGJ prohibits self-tests that do not have CE certification in the Netherlands.
The Covid-HAD test is a laboratory test. You collect the material yourself (a few drops of blood) and send it to our laboratory for analysis. Our laboratory is ISO certified and expert employees carry out the test. The medical microbiologist checks the results and shares them with you via a secure portal.

Why should I take a serological test?
With the serological test you are able to test whether you have had the corona virus. This information can provide more peace and security.
When will I get the results?
You will receive the results of a serological test taken in our clinic the same day. Usually around 10:00 PM, but this can also be earlier.
How can I make an appointment?
This can be done through our reservation system. Make an appointment at a test location of your choice.
Can I cancel my appointment?
Yes, this is possible up to 48 hours before your test appointment. You can do this yourself.
At which locations can it be tested?
There are now 11 locations in the Netherlands where you can take a test. View the overview on our test locations page.
How is the serological test taken?
We use a blood test to show if you’ve had Corona. For this, a few drops of blood are taken by our doctor / nurse.
In the laboratory we examine whether you have produced IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. This way we can see if you have already had the virus.
Am I immune if my serological test is positive?
For the time being it is not 100% clear whether people who have had SARS-CoV-2 are also immune. We therefore simply advise people to adhere to the applicable measures of the RIVM.
Testing at home
Which tests can I order for at home?
You can order the blood test or serological test that determines whether you have had Corona at home. You can find the test here.
PCR tests are performed by healthcare professionals and are not suitable for home use.
Why should I buy a home test?
You can also go to our clinic for the serological test, but it may be easier and safer for you to collect the material at home. You will then receive our self-sampling kit so that you can do the sampling at home. You return the set to us. You only need to post it.
The actual test and analysis takes place in the laboratory. that doesn’t make our test a home test. Tests that give the results at home are as yet unreliable and prohibited.
Our laboratory is ISO certified and expert employees carry out the test. The medical microbiologist checks the results and shares them with you via a secure portal.
When will my order be shipped?
If you have placed your order before 10:30 pm, your package will be shipped the same day. With your order you will receive a track & trace code with which you can follow the package exactly.
Our partner DHL says it is very busy. It may therefore take a little longer before you receive the test. We try to ship everything as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please contact us.
