The serological test

The serological test is a blood test that can be used to determine whether Corona antibodies (IgC) are present in the blood. Antibodies are created in response to a virus infection. The moment you are infected with a virus, the body will produce antibodies in response. After about two to three weeks, antibodies, for in this case SARS-CoV-2, are visible to us. We can use the serological test to determine whether you have had COVID-19.

Note: it is not yet certain that you are protected or ‘immune’ to COVID-19 after you have been infected.

What is a serological test?

A small amount of blood is taken during the serological test. This blood forms the basis for research into the presence of antibodies for the corona virus. If antibodies are present, we can say that contamination with COVID-19 has been experienced.

Coronalab uses the ELISA test with a very high specificity (> 98%). This makes the chance of false positive results very small. Our tests are analyzed in our own lab.

Why a corona antibody test?

A serological test is there to determine if you have had corona. This information can provide more peace and security. The test works optimally from about two weeks after the first day that you have been ill. Have you had complaints recently and do you want to know whether this was the corona virus? You can determine this with the serological test.

What are the costs?

The home test and the test in the clinic both cost € 49.95 including VAT.

Is your test a self-test / home test?

No. Self-testing means that you can do the test YOURSELF at home and also get a result AT HOME (eg a pregnancy test is a self-test). In that case, no laboratory or doctor is involved. Such tests are not reliable enough. The IGJ prohibits self-tests that do not have CE certification in the Netherlands.

The Covid-HAD test is a laboratory test. You collect the material yourself (a few drops of blood) and send it to our laboratory for analysis. Our laboratory is ISO certified and expert employees carry out the test. The medical microbiologist checks the results and shares them with you via a secure portal.

The result

You will receive the results of a serological test performed in the clinic via a secure email. Did you get tested in the morning? Then the results will be there the same day around 10 p.m. The results of tests in the afternoon will follow the next day (except if you test on Saturday afternoon, then the results will follow on Monday).

The result of an ordered home test is available online within 48 hours after receipt of the return box sent by you. You can request the result with your anonymous code. So keep it safe!

How is the corona antibody test taken?

At Coronalab.eu there are two options. You can order the test for at home, then you take the test yourself. The instructional video below explains how the home test works.

Frequently Asked Questions serological tests

Do you use a self-test?

No.

Self-testing means that you can do the test YOURSELF at home and also get a result AT HOME (eg a pregnancy test is a self-test). In this case, no laboratory or doctor is involved. The tests are as yet unreliable and not suitable for home use. The IGJ therefore prohibits self-tests that do not have CE certification in the Netherlands.

The Corona-Gehad test is a laboratory test because the test and analysis takes place in our laboratory. You collect some bodily material yourself (a few drops of blood or a throat swab) and send it to our laboratory for analysis. Our laboratory is ISO certified and expert employees carry out the test. The medical microbiologist checks the results and shares them with you via a secure portal. The advantage is that you only have to do the test again by post. Very handy in these times!

Why should I take a serological test?

Not everyone in the Netherlands is tested. Many people who have recently had complaints (at least 14 days after the last symptoms) would like to know whether they have had the corona virus. This information can provide more peace and security. In addition, we believe that a corona test should be accessible to everyone.

For the time being it is not 100% clear whether people who have had SARS-CoV-2 are also immune. We therefore simply advise people to adhere to the applicable measures of the RIVM.

You can find our serological test here.

Am I immune if my Corona-Gehad test is positive?

For the time being it is not 100% clear whether people who have had SARS-CoV-2 are also immune. We therefore simply advise people to adhere to the applicable measures of the RIVM.

Is my result anonymous?

The results of the Corona-Gehad test that you order online are completely anonymous. We don’t know who we are testing. You are the only one with that code, so keep the code card safe!

When will my order be shipped?

If you have placed your order before 10:30 pm, your package will be shipped the same day. With your order you will receive a track & trace code with which you can follow the package exactly.

Our partner DHL says it is very busy. At the moment we also experience some delays in the postal system. It may therefore take a little longer before you receive the test. We try to ship everything as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Can I return the test?

If the products do not meet your expectations, you can return them within 7 working days, if unused and in original packaging. All return shipments must be communicated to us in writing in advance. This is allowed by e-mail. You must state your full name and invoice number. Please note: the account number you specify for the refund must be the same as the account number from which you made the payment to Coronalab.eu. This is to prevent possible fraud with refunds.

Steps to return:

  1. Send an email to info@coronalab.eu and state what you want to return and your order number.
  2. You will receive a return form by email.
  3. Fill in the return form, print it out and send it with the return shipment.
  4. Pay attention! You are responsible that the item arrives intact, unused and in original packaging.
When will I get the results?

We strive to give everyone a result within 2 working days of receipt at our laboratory, but we depend, among other things, on the speed of PostNL. Also take into account any delay that PostNL has due to the situation and the applicable restrictions.

Once your test has been received at our laboratory, the progress can be followed on our website with your unique code.
